Making the Mind and Body Fit for Meditation

In many spiritual traditions, preliminary practices are used to prepare the mind as a vessel for more advanced forms of meditation. This 2-day retreat offers a Western approach, drawing from developmental psychology, integrative attachment therapy, neuroscience, and more. The aim is to overcome inner obstacles such as unresolved emotional content, trauma, and developmental wounds — to be able to fully show up on the meditation cushion.

We follow the developmental path of the human being toward full embodiment and a strong, stable sense of self. You’ll be introduced to methods for nervous system regulation, embodiment, emotional regulation, attachment repair, and self-development. Within the domain of self-development, we focus on four core attributes of the relative sense of self: self-definition, self-esteem, self-efficacy and self-compassion.

Schedule

DAY 1 - Saturday, January 17

Heart Centered Self-Regulation, Embodiment, Emotional Processing & Attachment Foundations

  • An orienting overview of Contemporary Foundational Practices, grounding the day in theory, intention, and shared language.

  • A guided experiential process for sensing and stabilizing a coherent, supportive field of awareness and care.

  • A regulation practice that engages the heart as an anchor for emotional balance and nervous system settling.

  • A sustained somatic exploration to deepen body awareness, presence, and experiential integration.

  • An experiential process for safely allowing, processing, and integrating emotional experience as it arises.

  • A teaching segment connecting attachment theory to lived experience, regulation, and relational patterns.

  • A guided meditation supporting felt safety, internal secure base, and attachment-informed reflection

DAY 2 - Sunday, January 18

Attachment, Self-Development, Self-Compassion & Integration

  • An integrative teaching on the development of a coherent sense of self and the role of heart qualities in attachment and emotional maturity.

  • A guided practice supporting recognition, valuing, and internal acknowledgment of one’s efforts and capacities.

  • An experiential exploration focused on strengthening inner trust, agency, and confidence in one’s own experience.

  • A practice designed to cultivate stable self-worth through embodied recognition of competence and value.

  • A deepening practice to develop warmth, care, and responsiveness toward oneself, especially in moments of difficulty.

  • A closing integration space for reflection, meaning-making, and consolidating the weekend’s learning.
